    Paper Trail

T.I. hits the 4th Quarter bound and determined to solidify his crown with his 6th studio album Paper Trail. With everybody from the Fed’s to Chaka, and Shorty Lo taking shots at the self proclaimed King Of The South, it was uncertain that who would be holding the Crown when the dust Settled.

T.I. appeared no less that regal as he addressed all of the above. He starts off by beating the Fed’s and lyrically walking you down the road that brought him to the decisions that put him in that court room on “Ready For Whatever“. Next up DTP… From “On Top Of The World” It seems the feuding has been brought to an end (at least temporarily) with two of ATL’s best on the same track. “And with the third pick, I made the earth sick,” whatever cred Shortly Lo hoped to garner from the feud with “da King” has got to be wounded and bleeding profusely after “you watch T.I. bring out a lawn chair and spend the day sipping lemonade in the Bowman Projects on “What Up, What’s Haapnin’“.

Paper Trail started off exactly how it should, with a monster intro that reunited Thomp’s drums with TIP’s ever energetic vocals. That alone made Paper Trail better than TIP’s last effort, however its clear that T.I. was reaching for a mainstream audience and more rhythmic airplay, which may or may not be the best move.

It is undeniable that Paper Trail will make a sicnificant impact at SoundScan, I’m just wondering what the long term effects of a polished crossover HipHop album will be with T.I.’s core fans. Album available In Stores and available to download on iTunes NOW, COP DAT DISC!!!

    Blackberry 9500 (Thunder)

Ok this goes out to all my gadget freaks.

Good news for all the Verizon and Vodafone customers!!! This is the new Blackberry Thunder(9500 series). A full touch screen Blackberry with only 4 physical keys.

The phone is going to be released in the fourth quarter of this year exclusively to Verizon and Vodafone. The exclusivity is a lifetime worldwide agreement, but here’s the kicker…If Verizon doesn’t hit its sales quota the exclusivity will then be null.

I contacted Verizon to see exactly when the phone will be released but all they could tell me was that it would be released sometime in November but no concrete date has been set to the best of my knowledge. Pretty dope though. I can’t wait to see what it can REALLY do. Almost makes me want to switch back to Verizon.

Last week in NYC Boston-born performance artist, Yazmany Arboleda, attempted to set up a controversial art exhibit depicting the assassination of Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton.  The provacative exhibit entitled, The Assassination of Hillary Clinton/The Assassination of Barack Obama, was set up in a vacant storefront on West 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan, according to the NY Times blog: Cityroom.

Clearly Arboleda believed that his racist views were protected by the Freedoms provided to us by the First Amendment.  Is this really freedom of expression?

Arboleda set up the gallery directly across the street from the NY Times building.  This is one cocky “artist.”  Only 30 minutes after the exhibit was opened, NYPD, the feds, and Secret Service shut him down.

    Check out these pics:

    The D.J.

    Posted in: Honor Roll

What’s good people…Today I’m going to address the dj ”why did i want to become a dj and what does a dj REALLY do”.

I’ve always liked the art in music, the way it’s put together and made. From conception to actualization, I become enthralled in how and why artists make the songs they do. With that said I’ve always wanted to play my part, I’m not a producer, I’m not an M.C. to the extent of what an M.C. is defined as today, but I am a dj. I enjoy making the crowd move; I get a kick out of when my people hear “their” song. It’s a true pleasure to spin, to use my creativeness to get ya’ll to dance all night. Don’t you hate when you go to a club or party and the dj is wack, it kinda fucks up the night. Yeah you can drink, yeah you can smoke, and yeah you can talk to niggas and females all night, but nothing takes the place of when you get a good dj on the tables and he or she is crankin’ out bangers all night.

Dj’s are the forefront of most musical trends. Whether you’re a club dj or a on air personality, dj’s are the ones who enable you to hear what’s good. We dj’s have to decipher what the majority likes and of course some dj’s are better at this then others. We become the “voice” for the artist, almost like an announcement. Our job is to entertain the masses through means of music, and I know I may be overstating the obvious but I have to say there are a lot of “fake” dj’s out there that just wanna play what they wanna play. You can do this at home and not subject people to your musical preference, but I digress… Our main job is to entertain, and that is a job that should be taken seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve dj’d a couple of events where I didn’t like the music(not exactly a jimmy buffet fan)but I got paid to entertain the people there and even though I don’t favor Jimmy Buffet, it doesn’t mean that these people can’t have the fun they want. Now there is a technical aspect of dj’ing that I won’t go into today…maybe another time, but just know that it’s not easy to be a dj. There is a lot more that goes into being a D.J. then just a person playing music.
